Cerebricon Ltd. Announces the Release of 3 Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE) Mouse Models for the in vivo Study of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Cerebricon Ltd. is pleased to provide 3 new in vivo models for the study of Multiple Sclerosis. The models incorporate various approaches to the induction of MS-like symptoms in mice. Each model is unique insofar as the characteristics duration and severity of symptoms.
- C57BL6 Chronic MOG(35-55) Model – this model shows a continual increase in severity of symptoms and can be described as primary progressive.
- SJL/J PLP+PTX Model – this model can be used as an acute or a chronic model. Clinical scores are not as severe as in the MOG(35-55) model and are not progressive. There is a complete relapsing and remitting pattern.
- SJL/J PLP Model – this model also shows a relapsing and remitting patter but clinical scores are higher than in the SJL/J PLP+PTX model and the pattern of relapsing and remission exists markedly but there is no return to baseline.
More information on these models as well as the other tools Cerebricon can provide for the study of MS can be found by linking to our Revised MS white paper that can be found in the Resources Section on the Cerebricon web site:

In response to the completion of the internal validation of these models Cerebricon Head of Models Development Antti Nurmi stated, “The team is particularly happy with the results of the in-house validations. It has been our thinking for some time that it is simply not good enough to deliver a single model to use as a tool to study compounds aimed at a particular disease. Therefore, to be able to deliver three different mouse models and couple these with our existing rat models we can now claim to have the most complete suite of in vivo models for MS. In subsequent months we will release an in vitro component in the form of a myelin assay in order to further compliment this particular in vivo platform.”

About Multiple Sclerosis (MS):
MS is a disease caused by an autoimmune attack against the isolating axonal myelin sheaths of the central nervous system (CNS). This often results in severe disability although there can be periods of remission. MS currently affects around 2.5 million people worldwide and can start at a young age i.e. between the ages of 20 and 40.
