Kuopio, Finland; London, UK: Cerebricon Ltd. Announces Exclusive License Agreement With University College London
February 9th, 2009, Kuopio, Finland; London, UK Cerebricon Ltd. Announces Exclusive License Agreement With University College London for Commercialization of a New Model of Attention Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) & States a Firm Intent to Provide Pertinent Models and Tools for Psychiatric Disorders.
Cerebricon Ltd. is proud to announce that it has completed negotiations with University College London (UCL) & UCL Business and has acquired an exclusive license in order to be able to breed and use the NK1R -/- mouse, which expresses all of the core features of ADHD, for 3rd party testing of compounds aimed at combating and alleviating ADHD. Cerebricon will now make this model available to clientele as part of its service portfolio.
Dr Antti Nurmi, Cerebricon’s Head of CNS Models and Development, stated “We are pleased to have made this agreement with UCL Business and particularly pleased to have the opportunity to commercialize this model that was developed by Dr Stanford and Professor Hunt. We are also excited with the work of Professor Gurling and the linking of NK1 with ADHD in humans. Cerebricon already has a broad range of behavioral tests for psychiatry and with the inclusion of this model we will apply additional modalities such as microdialysis and our in-house MRI technologies. Models such as this, in conjunction with the advanced techniques that Cerebricon will apply to them, will serve as more powerful tools to facilitate therapies from the preclinical stage to the clinical stage in a quicker and more efficient fashion than has previously been seen.”
Dr Abbie Watts, UCL Business commented “In partnership with Cerebricon we think that our model of ADHD will become the gold standard for assessing the efficacy of new ADHD drugs. We know that ADHD is a complex pathology but we think we have found the best validated and best in class model of the disease.”
Dr Juha Yrjänheikki, CEO of Cerebricon commented “With the inclusion of this model to our current portfolio Cerebricon is signaling a firm intention to branch out toward models of psychiatry. We will continue to evaluate pertinent models of disease such as this model for ADHD that we have licensed exclusively from UCL and augment them with our in-house expertise.”
